Sounds of the Night

Sounds of the Night

By J. Lynne Moore

Dancing winds
Whisper a song
Of fireflies
Chased by the ruddy frog

The cackling brook
Chimes a verse
About the spider
And her web of pearly fiber

Rustling leaves
Take up the tune
And sing of the owl
With glowing moonlit eyes

The last to sound
Is the breaking sky
With its saffron morning song
Adieu, goodnight, it is dawn

Stolen Dreams

Stolen Dreams

By J. Lynne Moore

Stolen dreams die,
In the judgment bed of sin;
Skeletal fragments,
Of what could have been.

Don’t remember me,
In this life interrupted.
What could have, should have,
Is now corrupted.

I will not lay in wait,
For dreams that boiled away.
Ample time is left ahead,
And I will not be lead astray.

River Song

River Song

By J. Lynne Moore

‘Tis the river’s song
that leads me nigh;
Through the meadows low,
under the open sky.

A wee dainty tune;
nature’s holy hymn.
Sung on a whisper,
through the shadows dim.

I stroll through the grass,
laden with dew.
My soul joins the chorus;
my heart beats anew.

The jewels in the heavens,
sparkle with delight.
Keeping perfect time,
with the opera’s flight.

By the shore, I now sit,
my toes are not shy,
And find their way gladly,
to the water…I sigh.

Just a moment of bliss;
in a life lived long.
A moment to remember,
singing the river song.

The Night Freddie Met His Doom

The Night Freddie Met His Doom

By J. Lynne Moore

He found himself alone in the dark,
Freddie had spent five, dark, soulless nights,
In the cold dead space of the silent, uninvited hills.

The clock tower chimed the 11th hour
And he was surrounded by the evil dead.
He had been the 7th guest of a hideous corpse party.

But now everyone had been left for dead.

Freddie knew he shall never make it until dawn,
For when the evil within had its way
He would assuredly be dead by daylight.

The evil residents of this fatal frame,
Were the blood borne spawn of hell,
And the dead were rising to take him away…

It would be a dark decent into eternal darkness…

Down to Dante’s Inferno of the condemned!

A/N – This is just a fun poem, an ode to many of my favorite video games.

Tea Time

Tea Time

By J. Lynne Moore

Take your time,
You won’t be late.
I’ll make sure,
To unlock the gate.

That’s the way…
Don’t look back.
I don’t bite…
Take off your pack.

Settle in, now.
Tea and cakes?
Oh don’t mind,
Those pesky snakes…

Another sip?
Then close your eyes.
You won’t wake up;
It’s my surprise.

Silly child…
Don’t you know?
Never trust a witch,
When the moon’s aglow.

The Lady is a Tramp

The Lady is a Tramp

By J. Lynne Moore

Walked in she did, nonchalant;
Tawdry, yet faithful, smile.
Laughable was her spirit,
Unattainable, walk in her shoes a mile.

With a utopian air, resonating;
She would boggle the mind.
Send you to the blinking moon.
Is she being grandiose or just kind?

Cheap perfume wafting in her shadow,
Overflowing with sassy grace.
You can’t help but love her;
As you stare into her rhetorical face.

Where did she float in from?
Where does she plan to drift off too?
Keep on asking your silly questions…
She will be gone after she uses you.

One Winged Angel

One Winged Angel

By J. Lynne Moore

Oh my one winged angel,
Dark and brooding…
Seen through my eyes.
My child of the night,
Born in the secret place.
You crafted my heart.

Oh my one winged angel,
Once left, twice returned.
Oh fatherless son of mine.
My moon, my stars,
Following the unseen path,
Fear holds us not.

Oh my one winged angel,
Love’s paradox cradles us;
Holding us hostage in time.
My breath, my life’s blood,
Heaven’s flightless angel…
of the shadows.

Dancing Shadow

Dancing Shadow

By J. Lynne Moore

that shadow dancing
on the wall
resembles me
but then again
not at all
slumbering through
my waking day
this shadow follows
me in every way
I haven’t got a clue
you see
I have no idea
what it wants
with me
does it wish me ill
will it do me harm
or…is it following me
as my lucky charm
the shadow dancing
in the light
haunts me
in the night
is the shadow who I am
or is it who I want to be

Last Goodbye

Last Goodbye

By J. Lynne Moore

I’ll dance not, upon your grave;
Though you, in life, were a knave.

Tender, your kiss, once made me shine,
Like the blossoms of the honeysuckle vine.

Then turned cold, your wicked embrace,
Leaving tears to stain my face.

I will not deny my bitter disdain;
That left my heart spent and mind insane.

But never did I wish for death to befall,
Your wretched soul, ‘twas your own downfall.

Yet, here I stand in a mourner’s gown,
As tears salt the rain cascading adown.

Is heaven or hell your newfound home?
Or does your soul hover betwixt the gloam?

A day may come whence we meet again…
‘Till that time, my life, I shall feign.
