Stay the Course

Stay the Course

By J. Lynne Moore

The point of determination,
Sticks in my craw.
I swallow again and again,
Leave my throat raw.

Logic says do or die! Now!
In the corner “want” starts to cry;
“Will”…gasping for breath,
Blue, purple, don’t let it die…

Silent, my voice falls short.
The crow laughs with a caw.
Determination tries to feed,
On my doubt, it begins to gnaw.

Live support begins to flow…
“Want” and “will” catch their breath.
The diurnal course, moves ahead,
For another day doubt meets death.

Honor, Freed

Honor, Freed

By J. Lynne Moore

Heart of love blossoms new,
Meek, to mild, to explosion, grew.

Give me away, you win indeed;
Hold me to close, you slowly bleed.

Watered with tears of joy’s marrow,
Drown with the tears of wholesome sorrow.

An elegant dress of a rainbow hew,
Tights of emerald green too.

A life lived in honor, freed;
In death I leave a lovely seed.

By any other name you may call me,
But beauty is all you will see.

A/N – My son challenged me to write a poem describing a rose without using the words, rose, thorn, flower, petal, red or bouquet.

The Lady is a Tramp

The Lady is a Tramp

By J. Lynne Moore

Walked in she did, nonchalant;
Tawdry, yet faithful, smile.
Laughable was her spirit,
Unattainable, walk in her shoes a mile.

With a utopian air, resonating;
She would boggle the mind.
Send you to the blinking moon.
Is she being grandiose or just kind?

Cheap perfume wafting in her shadow,
Overflowing with sassy grace.
You can’t help but love her;
As you stare into her rhetorical face.

Where did she float in from?
Where does she plan to drift off too?
Keep on asking your silly questions…
She will be gone after she uses you.
