Nature’s Play
By J. Lynne Moore
“My fate shall not be accepted;
Death will not call my name!
Defiance shall be my shield,
To my end I shall not go tame!”
“Or’ the splendiferous valley,
My flight sings a song of death.
As my prey rings the reaper’s bell;
I shall sup as he draws his last breath.”
“I dodge and weave and duck low,
Avoiding his initial swoop.
But low! He turns for a second run,
I zag and roll from his stoop.”
“You shall not escape my talons!
Go bold into the dark night!
Accept that you shall be my feast;
Watch as the mountains cheer on my flight!”
The purple sky and forest green,
Watch the dance; predator and prey.
One shall die or one shall hunger.
Who will win nature’s play?
